Campaign for Female Education. CAMFED is dedicated to fighting poverty and AIDS in rural communities in Africa by educating girls. CAMFED began in 1993 by supporting 32 girls in rural Zimbabwe. In 2006, 300,900 children benefited from CAMFED’s programme of educational support in some of the poorest regions of Zimbabwe, Zambia, Ghana and Tanzania: Following on the footsteps of Trident, which was set up in 1998 to help bring an end to a spate of shootings and murders among young, black Londoners. The initiative has worked in a close partnership with leading members of the black community (the Independent Advisory Group) as well as robust, intelligence-based policing, proactive crime prevention and increased quality of detection:

Powering up Smallholder Farmers to Make Food Fair. A campaign launched by the Fairtrade Foundation with a five-point agenda for action and is calling on UK Prime Minister David Cameron to use his influence, when the UK hosts the G8 summit in Northern Ireland in June 2013, to put smallholder farmers into the heart of governments’ trade policy and international and national business practice:

1. Farmers first: Increase farmers’ voice, influence and organisation.
2. Fair share of value: Ensure farmers are empowered in value chains and receive fair prices.
3. Fair access to finance: Ensure access to timely and affordable credit.
4. Future-proofed farming: Prioritise sustainable agriculture and climate resilience.
5. Focus in government funding: Increase and target national and donor government spending on agriculture.
