This is a list / directory of selected International and Regional Maritime Associations and Port Authorities. These institutions and initiatives focus on many areas, including: maritime and port R&D, maritime training and accreditations, sea-borne trade issues, the security of commercial and naval vessels and cargoes, counter-piracy and maritime piracy advice, seafarer’s safety and security, and international maritime law and disputes. To give you a better idea of what each organization focuses on, we have added to each listing at least one item related to maritime or private security.

Maritime Institute of Malaysia (MIMA)
MIMA is a policy research institute set up by the Malaysian Government to look into matters relating to Malaysia's interest at sea, and to serve as a national focal point for research in the maritime sector. Established in 1993, MIMA was incorporated under the Companies Act 1965, as a company limited by guarantee and not having a share capital, with its own Board of Directors. The Institute’s role will be both advisory and consultative. MIMA will provide advice and second opinions to Government agencies and other relevant organisations. The Institute also has the task of promoting the free exchange of ideas on all maritime matters.

Maritime and Port Authority of Singapore (MPA | Formerly known as Malaysian Institute of Maritime Affairs)
MPA was established on February 2, 1996, with the mission to develop Singapore as a premier global hub port and international maritime centre (IMC), and to advance and safeguard Singapore's strategic maritime interests. MPA is the driving force behind Singapore's port and maritime development, taking on the roles of Port Authority, Port Regulator, Port Planner, IMC Champion, and National Maritime Representative.

Oil & Gas UK (Formerly known as UK Offshore Operators Association or UKOA)
Oil & Gas UK is the leading representative body for the UK offshore oil and gas industry. It is a not-for-profit organisation, established in April 2007 but with a pedigree stretching back over 40 years. The organization's aim is to strengthen the long-term health of the offshore oil and gas industry in the United Kingdom by working closely with companies across the sector, governments and all other stakeholders to address the issues that affect your business.

PMA has within it’s functions to act as the supreme maritime authority of the Republic of Panama, to accomplish the rights and give fulfillment to the responsibilities of the Panamanian State within the framework of the United Nations Agreement over rights of Sea, 1982 and other laws and regulations in force.

Port Management Association of Eastern and Southern Africa (PMAESA)
Established in July 1973, PMAESA is a non-profit making, non-governmental and non-political organisation of port authorities in the Eastern and Southern Africa region. Our main objectives are to improve, co-ordinate and standardise African port operations, equipment and services of port and to improve relations with other transport organisations. Our membership ranges from to Sudan in the North to Namibia in South-West Africa, including the Indian Ocean islands and some land-locked countries.

Society of Maritime Industries (SMI)
SMI is the voice of the UK's maritime engineering and business sector promoting and supporting companies which build, refit and modernise commercial and naval vessels, and supply equipment and services for all types of ships and underwater vehicles, ports and terminals infrastructure, offshore oil & gas, maritime security and safety, marine science and technology and offshore renewable energy.

Suez Canal Authority (SCA)
SCA was established on July 26, 1956 , is a public and an independent authority of a juristic personality,SCA shall report to the Prime Minister. It has all the authorities needed for running the Canal without being limited by the laws and the systems of the government.
